I have sold some images through Imagekind off and on since
setting up an account there, but really only when I absolutely beg people to go
over there. Also, they charge what I think are extremely high prices for
shipping, so I really only wanted people to buy from there when they had a
coupon for free shipping.
Basically, I have been telling myself to sell prints
directly myself for a while now, but kept getting stuck on the cost analysis of
drop-shipping from my printer if it was only 1 print being ordered. To be
honest, I also get stuck at the idea of shipping the work out myself.
And then, thanks to Twitter, I caught a recommendation from
@blurb (who got it through @mlsokoloff) about Fotomoto.com. This is a company
that allows you to interface right inside your website. They take a flat cut of
the profit with no other membership fees or hidden charges. Their shipping is
reasonable. I signed up.
So now, every time I put an image on this site, like this:
Those links appear underneath it for purchasing a print or a
card, or sending a FREE e-card using my photo! See them? If you click one, a
little window opens up right here in the middle of the page, giving you size
choices and prices. How cool is that?
If I decide I would rather not sell a particular image, but
want to share it here (such as a photo of my family or a photo I want to keep
limited), I do some tweaking behind the scenes and no links that say “Buy Print”
etc. will appear.
It is simple. It is easy for me and easy for you, and you
now have the opportunity to buy prints of my work at VERY reasonable prices. So
reasonable, that you should really be buying several for the holidays, don’t
you think?
I added a new page (you can see the link across the top
there where the “About the Artist” and other information is). It says “More
Images for Sale” where I put a few more that I thought people might like. I
need feedback there, however. If there are images you haven’t seen on my blog
but have seen me post on Flickr and either you wish to buy them or you think
others might, please let me know (with urls if possible)!
Many thanks.
P.S. The opening at Sweet Mabel’s was very nice. No sales
that night (at least while I was there), but I’ll stop in this week and see how
they are doing.
